Winter Break Book Blogger Challenge, Day 10: Did you meet your goals?

I totally made my pages read goal (10,000 pages), actually, I blew that out of the water in like May, but the books read goal (175) was a lot harder to meet, especially once school started.  I did get really close though.  But, we aren't playing horseshoes, so close doesn't count!

I also just want to give a quick "howdy-do, I love you" to my husband.  Today is our 8th anniversary.  Thanks for being my anchor all these years.

Don't forget to check out Andi's post and to link up!

Second Quarter Check-In

Allllllllllllllllllllrighty then...I can't believe it's time again for a quarterly check-in!  I surprised myself this quarter.  In the month of May, even though we had endless testing and I felt like I was brain dead, I managed to read more pages that month with little picture books than I did in the months where I was reading a Game of Thrones book!

All in all, I read 7,673 pages and 46 books, bringing my year to date totals to 15,279 pages and 79 books.  My goal is 10,000 pages and 175. I've already reached my page goal, and I think am going to reach my book goal (or at least get really close!).

This is an average of 2,546.5pages and 13.2 books per month so far.

Are you meeting your goals?

1st quarter goal check in

I thought I'd go ahead and do a quick check in and let you know how my 2013 goal of reading 175 books and 10,000 pages was going.

In 3 months, I've read 32 books and 7,606 pages.  That's an average of 245 pages per book.

SERIOUSLY!!?!?!?!?!??!!  I'm totally going to make my pages goal, which I thought was going to be the harder of the two.

And, lets just estimate, if I read the same number of books each quarter (32x4), I can estimate that I'll read 128 books this year.  BUT, lets take summer into consideration.  I won't have anything hindering my reading time.  PLUS, I'll have Virginia Reader's Choice books to read.  So, I think I can read those pesky 47 books that I could potentially be behind.

I'm keeping track of the books and pages I've read under the "BOOKS READ" tab.

Goals Are Good

My main goal for this blog was to showcase books that I use in my classroom....the blog is called "Maestra Amanda's Bookshelf" for a reason!  (Maestra = teacher in Spanish), and I feel like I've strayed a bit from that goal.

I've been reading a lot of YA that I would not have in my elementary school classroom.  They are/were for my reading pleasure, and thats fine.  I should be able to read for enjoyment.  But, I also need to be able to connect my students with books they can read, and are appropriate for them to read.

So, I'm going to try to balance my reviews.  For every YA book I read and review, I'll try to read and review a book that should be more appropriate for use in my classroom.
