My favorite Dr. Seuss book

In thinking back over all the Dr. Seuss books I've read, how can you pick just 1 favorite?  Could it be THE CAT IN THE HAT?
Or what about GREEN EGGS AND HAM?
Or, HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS?
Ok, I even like THE BUTTER BATTLE BOOK, ONE FISH TWO FISH RED FISH BLUE FISH and HOP ON POP.

But, I think my favorite might just be MARVIN K. MOONEY WOULD YOU PLEASE GO NOW?
The others are great, but MARVIN has a special place in my heart.  At my PA grandparent's house, this was one of the few children's books in the upstairs bedroom.  I'm pretty sure an older cousin had outgrown it and left it behind.  But, it was always there, and it was one that I don't remember having at home, so it was special.  It was a Mimi and Pappap book.  I remember "reading" it every time we visited.  I think it may have been the first Dr. Seuss book that I could "read" on my own.  And I just loved how silly Marvin was, and how mean (in my mind) the person telling him to go away was.

Oh sure, now I could talk about reasons why kids love Dr. Seuss (easy to read, repetitive, the blends and vowel sounds), but at age 4, it was just a fun book that I could "read".

(I put "read" in quotations because, while I thought I was reading, I just had the book memorized.  I don't think I actually read it until about age 6).

  1. My favorite is Horton Hatches an Egg. My dad read that to me a lot as a child, and I will always love it!

  2. My favorite Seuss book hands down is THE SNEETCHES. It's my daughter's favorite as well. I don't think I've ever read MARVIN. I'll have to check it out.
