Seasons Readings: Christmas in Camelot

In Mary Pope Osborne's Magic Treehouse series, Jack and Annie have taken readers to the moon, ancient Greece, the Civil War, the Wild West, and more.  In this holiday addition to the series, Jack and Annie take us to the fabled Camelot (yes, THAT Camelot).

Here is the summary from Goodreads:
The Magic Tree House series has become a staple for inspiring kids to read. Christmas in Camelot is a very special Magic Tree House book. Here, author Mary Pope Osborne uses the literary skills for which she’s known to create a longer, more in-depth story featuring the characters kids have come to love. The result is magical: a fast-paced but detailed, easy-to-read story. Jack and Annie go on a quest to save Camelot, a quest that will prove to a beleaguered King Arthur that children and imagination really can make a difference.

This is another book I like to read with my students during the holidays.  They like it because its Christmas, Jack and Annie are fun, and because its a popular series.  I like it because while fun, readers are learning!  I like that Ms. Osborne tied in old legends, such as the white stag, Arthur's court (including Merlin and a good Morgan le Fey), fairies, dragons and possibly the Green Knight (only in Christmas colors).
Like I said, the Magic Treehouse series is super popular with kids from second grade on up.  My fifth graders love these books.  The suggested reading level on this is about mid third grade, but again, it really depends on the reader.
Don't forget to head over to the Seasons Readings page and check out the other books/reviews and to link up your own!
