Review: The Mark of Athena

Product Details
When last we saw Percy and his friends, they had just saved the Roman Legion (Camp Jupiter) and were reunited with Annabelle, Jason, Piper, Leo and Coach Hedge.

Now, thanks to some ghost-like things, the Roman camp is on their tail, bent on destruction.  Gaea is plotting to take over the world, Athena has given Annabelle directions for her own quest, and the Gods of Olympus and Rome are confused and not helping anybody.

In The Son of Neptune, Percy, Hazel, and Frank met in Camp Jupiter, the Roman equivalent of Camp Halfblood, and traveled to the land beyond the gods to complete a dangerous quest. The third book in the Heroes of Olympus series will unite them with Jason, Piper, and Leo. But they number only six--who will complete the Prophecy of Seven?

The Greek and Roman demigods will have to cooperate in order to defeat the giants released by the Earth Mother, Gaea. Then they will have to sail together to the ancient land to find the Doors of Death. What exactly are the Doors of Death? Much of the prophecy remains a mystery. . . .

With old friends and new friends joining forces, a marvelous ship, fearsome foes, and an exotic setting, The Mark of Athena promises to be another unforgettable adventure by master storyteller Rick Riordan.

At 500-some odd pages, this is a beast of a book to read, I think it took me around 2 weeks!  So leave yourself some time to finish it!

It has been a really long time since I read SON OF NEPTUNE and I had forgotten some details.  I'd LOVE if Mr. Riordan would include a character chart in the back (kind of like George RR Martin does with the GAME OF THRONES books).

As for the story, I enjoyed it.  But it took until about page 200 for me to really get into the book.  I think because I was still trying to remember what had happened in the last book.

Overall, if you like his Lightning Thief series, or are fans of the other Heroes of Olympus books, you'll enjoy this one.
