Review: Bloodlines by Richelle Meade

Product Details
I'm not sure where, but at some point along the way, I picked up an ARC of Bloodlines by Richelle Meade.  It has been sitting on my TBR shelf for AGES!  I knew that bloggers and readers really liked the series, but it was vampires and stuff and other books just kept bumping it.

Stupid me!  I really wish I had read it earlier.

I really identified with Sydney.  We are planners and observers.  We see what needs to be done and we do it.  Sometimes, forgetting that other people have feelings.  But, we care about those people.  We are humbled by any sort of recognition, because we feel we don't deserve it, we were just doing what we were supposed to be doing.

I also really liked Adrian.  He was so charming, yet broken.  I just wanted to give him a good shake, and then a hug.

Also, not to toot my own horn, but I totally knew that the final bad guy was a bad guy.  He just rubbed me wrong the entire book.  And that's all I'm going to say about that....

I had never read the Vampire Academy series, and I'm assuming that many of the characters are cross-overs, such as Lissa, Rose, Dimitri and Adrian.  There seemed to be a lot of background there that I was missing.  I also felt the same about Sydney.  For the first few chapters, I thought I had picked up a second or third book in a series, not the first.  Granted, like I said, I was reading an ARC, so maybe it got changed in the final copy, but I doubt it.

All in all, it was a good book.  Even for those of us who are tired of vampires :)  I honestly want to read the rest of the series (and the Vampire Academy series) to figure everything out.

Summary and image from Amazon:
When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones,
Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles, and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive--this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone's out for blood.
