Twice Upon A Time by James Riley

Damsels in distress.  Swashbuckling heroes.  Pirates.  Mermaids.  A sea-witch.  Your favorite fairy tales a little twisted.  A quest.....what more do you want in a book?  No.  Seriously.  If you're like me, and you love your books with some humor and all the above mentioned characteristics, then you should probably add this book (and the first in the series, Half Upon a Time) to your already growing TBR pile.

Here is the summary from Goodreads:
Jack and May are back for another adventure in the world of fairy tales with a twist. This time, they're on the hunt to learn May's true identity after the surprising reveal in Half Upon A Time about May's grandmother's real intentions.
Searching for answers brings Jack and May to the world of the Sea King, landing them right in the center of a battle between mermaids and the Pirate Bluebeard.
The laughter and action are as nonstop as ever in this next book from new author James Riley!
Twice Upon a Time is the second book in the Half Upon a Time series.

In this book, we meet Jack, May and Prince Phillip a few months after the end of Half Upon A Time.  They are still questing to find May's grandmother and put a stop to her diabolical plans (oh, I love writing those words!).  This time, they need help of the Pied Piper to venture into the Land of Never and have the Pan help them.  Along the way, they meet mermaids and Blackbeard and battle the Sea King.  Jack, however, is still having visions of The Eye (the person, not an actual eyeball) and is now being visited (and maybe even helped) by Lin, the new top Eye.  There is more to Lin and Jack's story, but I don't want to divulge any information.

If you couldn't tell, I really enjoyed this book.  I think its a perfect upper elementary / middle grades read.  According to the info on the inside of the cover, it comes out today.

Disclaimer:  After seeing my Friday Night Mental Movie casting of Half Upon A Time, I was contacted by James Riley asking if I would like to read Twice Upon a Time.  Of course I agreed, but I was under no obligation to write a favorable review.
