Veterans Day Books and Resources

Veterans Day is a day set aside to honor, remember and thank those who served in the Armed Forces.  Also called "Armistice Day" (because November 11th is the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War 1), it was first proclaimed a holiday in America by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919.

There are many books and resources out there to try and help explain Veterans Day to children.  Here, I compiled a list of books and other resources for you.
-Books-
*The Impossible Patriotism Project by Linda Skeers
*America, A Patriotic Primer by Lynne Cheney
*The Veterans Day Visitor by Peter Catalanotto
*Veterans Day by Jacqueline S. Cotton
*The Wall by Eve Bunting
*What is Veterans Day by Elaine Landau
*Granddad Bud: A Veterans Day Story by Sharon Ferry
*Veterans Day: Remembering Our War Heroes by Elaine Landau
~There are also many other books about parents and families of people serving in the Armed Forces that could be used here, but for this post, I wanted to focus on Veterans Day.~

And remember, please take the time to thank a veteran for their service.  Not just today, but everyday.

"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations."  President Woodrow Wilson, 1919

If you have other Veterans Day books or resources you'd like to share, please leave a comment below.
