Gryffindor was born in a place that would later become known as "Godric's Hollow" (also Harry's birthplace), in the 10th century. Godric's Hollow is in a western county in England.
Students in Gryffindor House are selected based on their daring, bravery, courage and determination. It was his hat that was turned into the Sorting Hat.
He was known for his own bravery and daring, tolerance of muggle-borns, and his skills in (wizard) dueling and transfiguration.
Gryffindor House colors are red and gold, and their symbol is the lion. Some famous Gryffindor students include: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, all the Weasley's, Lily Potter, James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Neville Longbottom, Rubeus Hagrid, Minerva McGonnagal, Albus Dumbledore, and even Peter Pettigrew.
