Review: THE SELECTION books by Kiera Cass

This series, THE SELECTION and THE ELITE by Kiera Cass just plain makes me happy.  I don't know what it is about it.  I don't like The Bachelor or most reality tv shows.  But, like my friend Andi says, "Its book crack."  They're that addictive.

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

THE ELITE:
Kiera Cass’s The Elite is a must-read for fans of dystopian fiction, fairy tales, and reality TV. This sequel to The Selection will enchant teens who love Divergent and The Bachelor.

In America Singer’s world, a bride is chosen for the prince through an elaborate televised competition. In the second book of the Selection series, America is one of only six girls left in the running. But is it Prince Maxon—and life as the queen—she wants? Or is it Aspen, her first love?

The Elite delivers the adventure, glamour, political intrigue, and romance readers of The Selection expect, and continues the love triangle that captivated them.

I picked up THE SELECTION on Thursday, was finished by Friday, and by Saturday afternoon had already read THE ELITE and THE PRINCE (a novella about Prince Maxon).

I think what it is though, is that it's like every girl's fantasy.  A handsome prince picks YOU.  Quirky ol' you.  He looks past the gorgeous model girls with the hot bods and likes YOU.  He sees how special you are and makes you his princess.

Now, I'm Team Maxon all the way.  I think Aspen is a butt who broke America's heart and I wish she'd tell him off.  Celeste the mean girl that is on every reality show.  You know the one, she's a witch with a b to everyone behind the scenes, but to the judges, she acts like sugar wouldn't melt in her mouth.  I always like when those girls get kicked off America's Next Top Model (I think they keep them on for the drama, personally).

I cannot wait until the third and final book comes out.  According to Goodreads, it's called THE ONE and due out in 2014.  I can't wait that long.  I must have my book crack now.

  1. Told you! I don't even really know what makes it so great, but the addictive quality is all that I need. And I really need a fix. :-)
